The sale of hatted Hawthorn restaurant Canvas to one of the key players the Press Club group, George Sykiotis, was sign on Friday. Sykiotis has big plans for the first-floor real estate with its vast deck area and has signed up Chef Simon Arkless (ex-Comme) who recently departed Match Bar & Grill. The to-be-renamed venue won’t be under the auspices of the burgeoning Press Club group, however - Sykiotis has bought it with Glen Bagnara and Roy Zandona, his former partners in Flinders Lane pizzeria Tazio. “ We are going to reinvent it as a great casual place the locals can enjoy,” Sykiotis said. Expect some interesting things with charcuterie, domestic pricing and iPads to keep the kids entertained.
